Hi, welcome to Historian On!
My name is Seva, and I am a late-stage PhD student in History with a submitted dissertation and a gaping hole in my life that was earlier occupied by writing said dissertation.
This blog started as a personal procrastination project that I used as a creative outlet for funsies (my first post is the initial pitch for the blog), but is now slowly morphing into something that I want to continue experimenting with in the long-term, as I write deep dives into games and academia and shorter commentary.
With Historian On, I want to add to the ongoing discussion of games, play and culture using what I’ve learned in my time as an academic. My background is in history, but I have also studied and TA’ed courses in IR, development, political science, economics and anthropology, among others, which gives me a pretty broad pool of concepts to play around with here.
My personal work centres on the nation-state, identity and world history but I have many other interests in (post)colonialism, gender, socialism and etc. that I want to explore in relation to games. And that is the goal here, really – exploration.
Thank you for reading, hope you enjoy the concept and stick around as it evolves!
